On Friday, March 8, the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team suffered a 51-71 loss to the University Of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons in the Lone Star Conference Tournament in Frisco, Texas.
The Falcons kicked off the first quarter with a layup, followed by a free throw and a 3-pointer for a 6-point lead. The following minutes saw a layup by senior forward Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, a layup by sophomore guard Landry Morrow and a jump shot by junior guard Madisen Honea, tying the score. Following a free throw by senior guard Sawyer Lloyd, the Falcons took another 6-point lead with two layups and a 3-pointer. The quarter was concluded with a jump shot by Morrow for a 9-13 score.
The second quarter started with a layup by McGhee-Pleasant followed by a jump shot by Honea, tying the score 13-13. The following minutes saw two jump shots and a layup, alongside a jump shot by Lloyd. Following a layup by the Falcons and a free throw by McGhee-Pleasant, the Falcons went on a spree with a free throw, a 3-pointer, two layups and two jump shots for a 17-point lead. The Rambelles would end the quarter with two free throws and a jump shot by McGhee-Pleasant, alongside a jump shot by Honea for a 22-33 score.
The Falcons began the third quarter with a 3-pointer, followed by a jump shot by Morrow. With two layups by the Falcons, Lloyd's response was a jump shot for the Rambelles. Within the following minutes, the Falcons' lead rose slightly with two free throws and a 3-pointer, with a jump shot by Honea in between. After a jump shot by McGhee-Pleasant, the Falcons followed with a layup, maintaining a 17-point lead. The seventh minute saw a layup by junior forward Madeline Stephens and a jump shot by freshman guard Madi Lumsden, alongside a layup by the Falcons. The quarter concluded after a jump shot by the Falcons with a 3-pointer by Lumsden for a 37-51 score.
The final quarter commenced with a jump shot, two layups and two free throws by the Falcons for a 22-point lead. After a jump shot by Stephens, the Falcons followed up with a jump shot and two free throws. The following minutes saw a layup by McGhee-Pleasant, alongside a 3-pointer and a free throw by the Falcons. With a jump shot by Lloyd and one by the Falcons, Lloyd followed up with a 3-pointer. After two free throws by the Falcons, the match concluded with a jump shot by Stephens and a 3-pointer by Honea with a 51-71 score.
With their loss against the UTPB Falcons in the LSC Tournament, the Rambelles’ basketball season concluded with a 20-12 overall standing.
