On Thursday, Feb. 15, the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team took a drastic victory over the Cameron University Aggies 88-52.

The first quarter saw the Rambelles take the lead with a 3-pointer by freshman guard Madi Lumsden, followed by two jump shots by junior forward Madeline Stephens. The Rambelles reached an 11-0 lead with a layup by sophomore center Keniah Williams, followed by a layup by sophomore guard Landry Morrow. The Aggies would get some points on the scoreboard with two 3-pointers. The seventh minute saw a 3-pointer and a jump shot by the Aggies, alongside a jump shot, layup and free throw by senior guard Sawyer Lloyd. Shortly after a layup by Lloyd, the Aggies followed up with a couple of free throws. After a jump shot by the Aggies, the quarter concluded with a 3-pointer by junior guard Madison Honea, 21-15.

Williams started off the second quarter with a layup, with a second one shortly afterward. The following couple of minutes saw a 3-pointer and free throw by the Aggies, followed by a layup by sophomore guard Olivia Pedigo. Honea followed up with a layup after a jump shot by the Aggies. The Aggies narrowed the Rambelles’ lead down to 3 points, 29-26, following a 3-pointer and two free throws. Strengthening their lead, the Rambelles followed up with a layup by Pedigo, a layup by Stephens and a jump shot by Lloyd. After two free throws by the Aggies and two by Honea, the Aggies finished off the quarter with a jump shot for a 37-30 score.

The third quarter saw the Rambelles score first with a 3-pointer by Lloyd, followed by two layups by the Aggies. The following couple of minutes saw a 3-pointer by Morrow, a layup by Stephens and two layups by Williams for a 49-34 lead. Following two free throws by the Aggies, Stephens locked in a layup alongside a layup and free throw by Williams. Following a jump shot by Lloyd, the Aggies scored a layup. After two free throws by Lloyd, the Aggies followed up with a 3-pointer. The Rambelles secured a stronger lead with a 3-pointer by Honea, a free throw by Lloyd and a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Briley Merket. The third quarter finished off 65-41, Rambelles leading.

The last quarter had the Rambelles score first with a layup by Williams, followed closely by a jump shot by the Aggies. After a layup by Lloyd, the Aggies locked in a layup and free throw in the third minute. The following couple of minutes saw the Rambelles rack up points, with two layups by Williams, a 3-pointer by Lumsden and a 3-pointer by Lloyd for a 79-46 lead. After a layup by the Aggies, the Rambelles would get another 3-pointer, this time by Pedigo. The eighth minute would have four free throws by the Aggies and a layup by Pedigo. Honea would finalize the match with a jump shot and layup, concluding the match 88-52. 

The Rambelles’ victory over the CU Aggies was a drastic one, with the victory placing them at an 18-8 overall standing. The Rambelles will face off against the Midwestern State University Mustangs next on Saturday, Feb. 17, at home in the Junell Center.
