Can’t keep a good Ram down

The Ram football team beat the Texas A&M Kingsville Javelinas in a comeback victory Saturday night.

ASU was down until the second half when it started scoring multiple touchdowns with a final score of 40-14

The team was down 14-10 at the end of the first half.

Head Coach Will Wagner said sophomore quarterback Charlie Rotherham is a fighter and a great player and all the other players believe that as well.

Rotherham had a total of 386 passing yards for the night, which is the 10th most in a single game in ASU history.

“He’s a great leader for us and our kids respond well to him,” Wagner said.

Senior receiver Donovan Thompson said Rotherham did a great job and it just took him some time to get comfortable.

“I think everybody around him did a better job about going out there and making plays for him so he could be comfortable,” Thompson said.

Conner Flanigan had multiple field goals as well. He received the first points for the team in the second half; the 37-yard-field goal was the longest of his career.

“They were really disappointed the last two weeks because of the way they performed,” Wagner said. “They were itching to get back out and just showing what we’re capable of doing when we perform at eye level.”

ASU suffered losses against Tarleton State University and Eastern New Mexico University.

“We never stop fighting and that’s what we talked about this week,” Wagner said. “Things aren’t going to work out exactly how we plan but we got to keep swinging and keep fighting and our kids did that and it was fun to see that second half performance.”

Thompson said he knew himself and the other receivers would have to go out there and make plays.

“It seemed like everytime I looked up somebody else was catching a ball,” Thompson said.

Thompson said this game will give them confidence going into the following weeks.

“It felt good to finally get back to our home crowd and get a win for our fans,” Thompson said.

Thompson said he was glad they went out and played as a team.

Wagner said they will use the bye week to keep the players healthy and ready to go.

Thompson said the team will make sure they are prepared.

“I’m going to enjoy this tonight but as soon as I wake up tomorrow morning my mind is going to be focused on Midwestern,” Thompson said.

The Rams have a bye week next week and will be back home on October 14 to face Midwestern State University.
