Will Wagner is the new  head coach as of Dec. 23 of the Angelo State football team.
A former assistant head coach at Northwestern Missouri State, Wagner won three national championships on top of his 108-9 record while on the coaching staff.
Wagner coached under the Liberty Mutual College Coach of the Year candidate Mel Tjeerdsma.
"[Under Tjeerdsma I've seen] how to treat people, how to motivate young men, and how to win at a consistent level and what it takes," Wagner said.
There will be changes on both sides of the ball, Wagner said.
"From an offensive standpoint, I'd really like to get the quarterback more involved in the run," Wagner said.
Wagner plans on using multiple formations to mix things up and adjust on offense.
"I want to be able to dictate the tempo of the game from an offensive standpoint," Wagner said. "A lot of no huddle, and slowing things down or speeding them up when we need to."
Defensively, the Rams will run a four-man front (four down linemen) under Wagner, instead of the three-man front used last season.
"If you're playing against a team that has a very mobile quarterback there are less lanes to run," Wagner said. "If they run a zone-read there are less gaps for the running back."
The Rams will still use the 3-4 defense on occasion, Wagner said.
"I think if [the players] really believe in [what I'm going to do] then we'll have a chance," Wagner said.
Wagner is currently recruiting players and hiring the rest of his coaching staff.
"There's going to be bumps in the road I'll have to handle that I've never done before, but I look forward to the challenge," Wagner said.
