The Angelo State Belle tennis team finished their weekend play with a win on Thursday against the UT Tyler Patriots and a loss on Saturday against the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. 

ASU (7-0) UTT (Game 1)

Ramitha Irrinki and Ayda Guler would take a 6-2 doubles win in line two to start Thursday’s matchup. Meanwhile, UT Tyler would take a 6-3 line one win from doubles pair Meike Van Deventer and Ena Ovcina.

To seal the doubles point, Esther Bowers and Valentina Gonzalez took a 6-4 victory at line three. 

In the singles, Ovcina in line three, Guler in line five and Irrinki in line six all won their matches. Along with these victories, Dianela Rodriguez at line one, Gonzalez at line two and Eva Schwartz at line four all fought for set victories in order for the Belles to clinch for singles.

Rodriguez was challenged with facing the No. 42 Leony Deutschmann and fought hard by taking one match from the Patriot and bringing their other matches to tiebreakers.

The Belles would win the day against the Patriots 7-0 and would play again on Saturday against the UCO Bronchos.

ASU (1-6) UCO (Game 2)

In Saturday’s matchup, the Bronchos would clinch the doubles point at lines one and three with 6-0 victories. Irrinki and Guler would fight for the win against the No. 48 Bronchos team by forcing a tiebreaker but would fall to the ranked pair at line two.

In the singles matchups, Bronchos Adel Abidullina, No. 3, and Mae Canate, No. 25, would take lines one and two in two straight sets to bring the day’s score to 3-0.

Guler would take her match in line four to give the Belles their point of the day. No other Belles would take a victory, but Schwartz, Alexandra Vishnevskaya and Irrinki would each take one set win from their opponents.

The Belles are now 14-6 overall. The team was honored by receiving a second ranking for the South Central Region poll. The Belles will compete at Kingsville, Texas, on April 21 against Texas A&M Kingsville and again on April 23 to host their regular-season finale against Western New Mexico.
