On Saturday, March 2, the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team saw redemption in their 78-65 victory against the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons following their loss to them on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

The first quarter kicked off with a layup by junior forward Madeline Stephens, followed by a 3-pointer by the Falcons. After a layup by junior guard Madisen Honea, the Falcons retook the lead with a layup of their own. The Falcons took a 4-point lead with a layup and a 3-pointer after a layup by senior guard Sawyer Lloyd. The following minutes saw two free throws and a 3-pointer by senior forward Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, alongside a jump shot by Stephens and a layup by the Falcons. Lloyd concluded the quarter with a layup and a free throw for a 16-12 lead.

The second quarter began with a 3-pointer by the Falcons, followed by a jump shot by McGhee-Pleasant. After a layup by the Falcons, McGhee-Pleasant locked in a 3-pointer of her own. Two free throws by the Falcons placed them closer to the Rambelles’ lead with just a 2-point difference. The Rambelles strengthened their lead soon after, with a 3-pointer by Stephens and a 3-pointer by freshman guard Madi Lumsden. Following three free throws by the Falcons, Lumsden followed up with a layup for a 29-22 score. The following minutes saw a layup and a free throw by the Falcons, alongside two 3-pointers by Stephens for a 10-point lead. After two free throws by Lumsden, the Falcons finished off the quarter with two layups for a score of 37-28.

The third quarter started with two free throws by Honea, shortly followed by a layup by McGhee-Pleasant. After a jump shot by the Falcons, sophomore guard Landry Morrow, Stephens and Honea each locked in a 3-pointer. Catching up, the Falcons scored two layups and a 3-pointer for a 50-28 score. Following a jump shot by Lloyd and immediately after a jump shot by the Falcons, sophomore center Keniah Williams scored two free throws. After a layup and two free throws by the Falcons, Lloyd and Honea both got 3-pointers locked in. The Falcons finished the quarter with a free throw and a layup for a 60-47 score.

The final quarter commenced with a 3-pointer by McGhee-Pleasant, followed by a layup by the Falcons. Following two layups by Honea and McGhee-Pleasant, a 3-pointer by Stephens placed the Rambelles ahead by 21 points. After a jump shot by the Falcons, the Rambelles secured another 3-pointer, this time by Lloyd. The following minutes saw two free throws, a layup and a 3-pointer by the Falcons, placing the score at 73-58. After a jump shot by Lloyd, the Falcons scored a layup, keeping the Rambelles’ lead at 15 points. In the final minutes, a free throw by Honea and two by Lumsden along with a 3-pointer and a layup by the Falcons left the concluding score at 78-65.

Having found redemption against the UTPB Falcons, the Rambelles’ regular season has concluded; however, they have yet to take on the Lone Star Conference Basketball Tournament. Their first matchup of LSC will once again be the UTPB Falcons on Friday, March 8, in Frisco, Texas.
