On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Angelo State University Rambelles basketball team was defeated by the Cameron University Aggies, 47-73. 

Kicking off the first quarter, the Aggies took the lead with a jump shot and two free throws; however, the Rambelles would overtake the Aggies with a jump shot by senior guard Sawyer Lloyd and a 3-pointer by sophomore guard Landry Morrow. Retaking a short-lived lead, the Aggies scored a 3-pointer, followed by a layup by junior forward Madeline Stephens, tying the score 7-7. After a short stalemate, the Rambelles took the lead with a jump shot by center sophomore Keniah Williams and a 3-pointer by Morrow. There would be an exchange of 3-pointers in the eighth minute, with ASU’s scored by sophomore guard Briley Merket. Following a couple of free throws by Stephens and a jump shot by the Aggies, Lloyd locked in a jump shot as the last score of the quarter for a 19-12 lead.

The second quarter had the Aggies tie the score 19-19 within the first few minutes with two jump shots and a 3-pointer. After a jump shot from senior forward Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant, the Aggies took the lead with two free throws and a jump shot. Tying the score, freshman guard Madi Lumsden scored two free throws. Retaking the lead, the Aggies scored a layup soon followed by a jump shot. The last minute of the quarter saw two free throws by Lloyd, a jump shot and a free throw by Williams, along with two free throws by the Aggies. The second quarter would conclude with the Aggies leading 28-29.

The start of the third quarter saw the Aggies increase their lead with a couple of layups, a 3-pointer and a jump shot to a score of 28-38. Preceding a standstill, Morrow would score a 3-pointer in the second minute. The following five minutes saw the Aggies score six free throws, a jump shot, a layup and a 3-pointer. The seventh minute saw Lumsden score two free throws, shortly followed by a 3-pointer and a layup by the Aggies, with a jump shot by Williams ending the third quarter with a score of 35-56.

The final quarter saw the Aggies score a 3-pointer within the first second of the quarter. Following up was a free throw by Lloyd, a 3-pointer by Morrow and a layup by Williams. The Aggie's lead increased with a jump shot and a 3-pointer to a score of 41-64. Shortly after a layup by Williams, the Aggies followed with two layups of their own. With another layup from the Rambelles by sophomore forward Olivia Pedigo, the Aggies followed up with a free throw and two layups for a score of 45-73 by the eighth minute. The Rambelles would score the last points of the game with two free throws by Lumsden, concluding the game with a score of 47-73.

With their loss against the CU Aggies, the Rambelles’ overall standing is at 13-6, with their next game being home against the St Mary's University Mustangs on Thursday, Jan. 25, at the ASU Junell Center.
