On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Angelo State University Rams basketball team defeated the University of Texas-Permian Basin Falcons 74-65 for a seven-game win streak.

The first half saw the Falcons score first with a layup. The Rams answered this with two layups by redshirt sophomore forward Shemar Smith and one by graduate forward Trey Farrer, a three-pointer by graduate guard Keyshawn Embery-Simpson and a jump shot by senior guard Kevon Godwin. By the fifth minute, ASU gained a nine-point lead with a score of 11-2. Narrowing the gap, UTPB would get a three-pointer and a dunk in. The seventh minute saw two free throws and a jump shot from the Falcons, with a jump shot by Farrer and a dunk by senior forward DJ Basey. After a three-pointer by senior forward Barlow Alleruzzo IV, Godwin scored another jump shot for ASU. The 10th minute saw UTPB get a jump shot and two free throws, with a layup by Godwin within then. Soon after a free throw by Basey, both teams would get dunks in back-to-back. Following a three-pointer from the Falcons was a three-pointer by Godwin, two free throws by Farrer and a jump shot by Embery-Simpson. With ASU leading 32-20 by the 17th minute, the Rams continued to score relentlessly over the remaining four minutes, foiling any attempts made by the Falcons. The remaining time saw a layup and two free throws by Farrer, a free throw by senior guard Willie Guy and a three-pointer and layup by Embery-Simpson. The first half concluded with ASU leading 42-20.

The second half saw UTPB score first with a jump shot, followed by two three-pointers and a jump shot by Godwin. The following minutes saw three free throws, a jump and a layup from the Falcons. Godwin and Guy would get in two more three-pointers for the Rams, followed by two free throws and a three-pointer by the Falcons. By the 10th minute, the Falcons scored three more three-pointers, with a layup by Godwin shortly after the second one. The next few minutes saw two three-pointers by Embery-Simpson and another by junior guard Carvell Teasett. The 13th minute saw the teams exchange layups, the Rams’ scored by junior guard Kendrick Delahoussaye. After two free throws from the Falcons, there was a three-pointer by Delahoussaye and a layup by Embery-Simpson. With six minutes remaining, the Falcons scored repeatedly, giving no chance to the Rams. The Falcons scored three free throws, three layups, two jump shots and a three-pointer, but were unable to catch up to the Rams. The game would conclude as a 74-65 victory for the Rams, their seventh win in a row.

With their win against the Falcons, the Rams now turn to face off against the Rollins College Tars in the Daytona Beach Shootout on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.
