The past weekend, the Angelo State University Rambelles softball team took on the Cameron University Aggies in three games, two on Friday, April 5, and one on Saturday, April 6. The Rambelles flawlessly defeated the Aggies 3 for 3, with victories of 6-0, 5-4 and 1-0.

Friday's first match saw the Rambelles’ junior pitcher/infielder Averie Gunther reach home plate from third for a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Rambelles' second inning progressed with three back-to-back runs from senior outfielder Ashton Dirner, freshman catcher Abby Brand and Gunther for a 4-0 lead. Later into their second inning, a run by freshman utility Laylonna Applin placed the Rambelles at a 5-0 lead. After a slow couple of innings, the fifth inning saw the Rambelles reach their final score of 6-0 with a home run by Dirner, marking their first victory against the Aggies.

Friday's second match kicked off with the Aggies leading 0-1 after a run to home plate from third in their first inning. The Rambelles tied the score with a run by Gunther from third base in their first inning too. The third innings saw a short-lived 1-2 lead by the Aggies as the Rambelles followed up with a run by sophomore infielder Layni Tanner, tying the score at 2-2. Taking a 2-3 lead, the Aggies scored a third run on a pitching error in their third inning. The Aggies’ fourth inning saw another run from them for a 2-4 lead. The Rambelles' fifth inning saw them start up again with a home run by senior catcher Keilei Garcia placing them at a 3-4 score. Following a slow sixth inning, Applin tied the score 4-4 with a run in the seventh inning, extending the match into an eighth inning. Dirner would score the game-winning run on a throwing error for a 5-4 victory, marking the Rambelles’ second victory against the Aggies.

On the following day, Saturday, the Rambelles faced the Aggies once again. Saturday's match was uneventful with the majority of the match at a 0-0 standstill, with both teams unable to score for the first six innings. The game’s only run was also the game-winner for the Rambelles, having been scored by junior infielder Erin Plunkett in the last play of the seventh inning, marking the Rambelles' third consecutive victory against the Aggies.

With their three victories against the CU Aggies, the Ramelles now hold a 32-11 overall standing, ranking third in the Lone Star Conference. Next, the Rambelles will take on the Texas A&M International University Dustdevils in three home games at Mayer Field, two on Tuesday, April 9, and one on Wednesday, April 10.
